What is a
Cultural Health Station?

In order to better understand the process of the Xizhou tribe's resistance and the living conditions of its residents, we visited the cultural health station of the tribe and interviewed local residents as well as volunteers at the health station.

Cultural Health Station

As Taiwan enters an aging society, the government has launched a series of long-term care services, including cultural health stations established in indigenous settlements.

As of the year 2020, there were a total of 433 cultural health stations nationwide, with over 10,000 service personnel, providing professional care services and companionship for indigenous elders, as well as organizing various activities to enrich their lives, such as handicraft courses, music classes, and even gardening activities within the tribe.

The aunties in the tribe enthusiastically shared their daily lives with us, showing their joy in experiencing new things.

The cultural health stations also provide regular health check-ups, safety awareness seminars, and during the pandemic, they provided comprehensive care services to the tribe, including distributing rapid test kits, administering vaccines, and even meal delivery services, which have continued to this day, benefiting many elderly residents living alone or with limited mobility. We also briefly participated in the tribe's meal delivery service.

The establishment of cultural health stations allows the elders in the tribe to have time to socialize and promotes their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Furthermore, cultural health stations are also committed to assisting tribal youth in employment and returning to their hometowns, while also helping to preserve tribal culture, such as offering language and traditional cultural courses for tribal children and youth, organizing various activities to promote tribal characteristics, and collaborating with different organizations to increase opportunities for interaction between the tribe and different ethnic groups in society.
